Because imatinib (Gleevec) does not kill all GIST cancer cells, new treatment ideas under development include: - combination trials of imatinib plus other drugs
- imatinib plus surgery in specified sequences (see trials for neo-adjuvant and adjuvant imatinib)
- heat shock protein inhibitors
